Mastercard is strengthening its collaboration with Dutch social impact platform Dappre, taking the next step in using Open Finance to turn everyday payments into meaningful, structural and measurable local support for clubs, associations, foundations, and charities.
Dappre is a network-based app that enables consumers to automatically set aside small donation amounts whenever they make purchases at participating local merchants. By leveraging Mastercard Open Finance, transaction data is shared securely and in real time streamlining the process and removing the need for manual validation. As a result, everyday payments are seamlessly converted into local social impact, benefiting consumers, entrepreneurs, and community organisations alike.
Driving local impact for merchants and communities
For local merchants, the Dappre network offers a compelling way to engage socially conscious customers. Furthermore, the network lowers thresholds to visibly demonstrate commitment to local communities. Each transaction contributes directly to local initiatives strengthening customer relationships and enabling entrepreneurs to support causes that matter in their neighbourhoods.
By embedding giving into everyday payment activity, donations become a structural, measurable and scalable part of commerce, rather than a one-off action.
“With this collaboration, we show how payment technology can strengthen local cooperation,” said Jan-Willem van der Schoot, country manager, Mastercard Netherlands.
“With Mastercard Open Finance, we’re supporting a solution that securely and simply connects everyday payments with tangible impact for clubs, associations, and charities – helping technology deliver real social value at the local level.”
“This collaboration with Mastercard is an important step in making the Dappre platform even easier, safer, and more scalable,” said Marcel van Galen, founder of Dappre.
“We share the ambition of connecting innovation with social value, especially locally, where consumers, entrepreneurs, and organisations can work together to support initiatives that matter most to them.”
Enabling Structural Support for Local Clubs and Associations
Clubs, associations, and foundations automatically receive saved amounts from supporters and participating merchants on a monthly basis. Beyond financial contributions, the model strengthens ties between organisations, their members, and local businesses amplifying impact as participation grows.
“For MEP, participating in the Dappre network truly delivers multiple ‘win-wins,’” said Han Swinkels, chairman, MHC MEP, Boxtel.
“Members save towards contributions or goals, the club receives several thousand euros annually for grassroots hockey activities, and local retailers benefit from increased turnover as part of their support for MEP.”
