Unpacking JROC’s recommendations for Open Banking in the UK
The Joint Regulatory Oversight Committee’s (JROC’s) recommendations for the next phase of Open Banking in the UK provide some long-awaited clarity for the ecosystem. Open Banking Expo’s Ellie Duncan is joined by Tom Burton, director of external affairs and public policy at GoCardless, Stephen Wright, head of regulation and standards at NatWest’s Bank of APIs, and TrueLayer’s head of public policy Jack Wilson to assess what it means for the future of OBIE, and how the industry can meet the most imminent deadlines. Head of Public Policy TrueLayerJack is a former policy adviser at the UK banking regulator the FCA, where he led work to create the FCA’s approach to regulating firms under the new Payment Services Directive (PSD2). He was also a UK representative on European Banking Authority and European Central Bank Committees, including the Standing Committee on Payment Services. Jack also led the FCA’s team assessing banks’ readiness for Open Banking, focusing on their Open Banking interfaces (APIs) and customer journeys.
At TrueLayer Jack leads our engagement with UK and EU regulators and authorities, and sits on a number of committees as a fintech and regulatory expert.

Stephen Wright
Industry Engagement & API Standards Lead NatWestLead for Open Banking / Finance industry and regulatory engagement and API standards at NatWest Group. He has been involved in Open Banking eco-system since the Open Banking Working Group in 2015 and the formation of the Open Banking Implementation Entity in 2016.
Initiated the NatWest Open Banking programme and have delivered Open Banking and PSD2 APIs over the past five years. He is interested in the development of commercial API standards and business models.
