Payment network Affirm has expanded its relationship with ecommerce giant Amazon to Canada, with the introduction of a “pay-over-time” option to customers of Amazon.ca.

Customers shopping on Amazon.ca will be able to select Affirm as a payment option during checkout, at which point they will undergo a credit check that does not affect their credit score.

If they are approved at this point, customers will be offered the option to split their purchases of $50 or more into monthly payments, with confirmation of how many monthly payments they have to make to repay the amount.

Affirm and Amazon said that a customer’s total payment amount will not increase, and they will never be charged a late or hidden fee for this service.

The new payment option will be available at checkout in both English and French within the next month.

“We’re always looking to enhance the paying experience for our customers, including how and when they can pay for their orders,” said David Williams, vice president of Amazon Payment Products.

“Introducing Affirm in Canada gives our customers another flexible payment option for their purchases.”

Geoff Kott, Affirm’s chief revenue officer, said that since launching with Amazon in the US it had been providing eligible Amazon customers with a tool to “responsibly increase their purchasing power”.

“We are excited to bring customers shopping on Amazon.ca the opportunity to pay for everyday items and milestone purchases with Affirm as we deliver the same level of transparency and flexibility that customers have come to expect from Affirm across our markets in North America and beyond,” Kott added.
