Volt, the global rail-agnostic money movement platform, announces that its Australian entity, Volt Connect Pty Ltd, has been granted Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL) number 700107 by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC). The licence authorises Volt to provide its account-to-account payment services – covering pay-ins and pay-outs on the New Payments Platform – to both retail and wholesale clients in Australia.
The grant completes Volt’s framework of direct regulatory authorisation across its three core markets. Volt now holds licences in its own name across the United Kingdom (Electronic Money Institution), the European Economic Area (Polish National Payment Institution) and Australia (AFSL 700107) – creating a single, unified account-to-account platform for the global merchants and PSPs Volt serves.
In Australia, Volt’s platform spans the full real-time payments lifecycle on the New Payments Platform (NPP): PayTo collections (one-off, one-click and recurring), PayID aliasing for automated reconciliation, instant pay-outs to BSB/account or PayID, and Confirmation of Payee – all accessed through the same API merchants use for Volt’s UK and EU markets. Australian merchants and partners include Primer, Optty, Pepperstone, BetMakers and City Beach.
Steffen Vollert, chief executive officer and co-founder at Volt, commented: “The Australian real-time payments infrastructure is a showcase of how A2A can reach feature parity with cards and can unlock convenience as well as better cost structures for merchants and consumers. The AFSL gives us the ability to provide our global merchants and PSPs a unified A2A experience with pay-ins and pay-outs in Europe, the UK and Australia.”
Kristofer Rogers, senior vice president Australia and New Zealand, added: “PayTo and PayID gave Australian merchants a real-time alternative to card rails for collections. The AFSL extends that to payouts – instant refunds, claims disbursements, marketplace payments and gig-economy payouts on the same NPP infrastructure.
“For the merchants we work with, that’s a meaningful product expansion. It’s also a clear signal of intent: Australia is a strategic market we’re investing in for the long term, not a satellite operation.”
With AFSL 700107 in place, Volt operates its account-to-account platform under its own regulatory authority across three of the world’s most advanced real-time payments markets: the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area and Australia.
