The former director of engineering and technology at Metro Bank, Sailesh Panchal, has joined UK bank TSB as its new chief technology officer.

Confirming his appointment in a LinkedIn post, Panchal wrote: “I am thrilled to announce my latest role as Chief Technology Officer at TSB Bank, where I’ll also be overseeing data and payments.

“A heartfelt thank you to the TSB leadership team and [CIO] Cheryl McCuaig for entrusting me with this monumental responsibility.”

Panchal identified a number of areas in which he will be connecting the bank’s business and technology “to make an impact”, including governance and compliance, with a focus on payments, Open Banking, data governance and regulatory compliance.

He also wrote that he will be “looking towards the cloud” and “using industry best practices and being operational, commercial, security, governance and data-aware as we advance, and prepare for the next wave of technology innovations”.

McCuaig, TSB’s chief information officer, joined the bank at the start of the year, after four years at Metro Bank in the same role.

Panchal, who left Metro Bank in 2021, subsequently took up a role as director of Digital Transformation Advisory.

He has also worked at Orwell Group and at the Payment Systems Regulator, where he contributed to the Payment Systems Forum draft strategy on the new architecture for payments and was chief architect of the New Payments Architecture.
